I have run in Bikila LS and find that the Speed XC is a wider shoe (I have narrow feet) that are uncomfortable until you start running or hiking (after running for a while, my toes spread out and the shoe fits well). I bought these for trail running where the thicker soles would protect my feet better than the thinner Bikila soles - for that, this shoe is great. Also, I wanted a pair of VFF that would keep my feet from getting wet - I've run in snow and slush and found that these keep my feet dry and warm (always wearing socks). For runs on pavement, I think these soles are too knobby, but for dirt, crushed limestone, grass, and snow these are my new go-to pair of VFF.
