Beneath the insole is a layer of cork, providing additional resilience and insulation. Every Alden New England shoe carries a tempered steel shank, precisely contoured and triple ribbed for extra strength. Truly the backbone of a fine welt shoe or boot, the shank provides the proper support and shape required to give comfort throughout the day. Oak tanned leather bends are cut into outsoles at factory for maximum control of quality, crafted not only with good looks, but with the integrity of fine shoemaking. Cancellation Requests
- Upon request, we will make our best effort to cancel your order prior to it shipping.
- Orders cannot be canceled if they are too far along in our shipping process or if they have already shipped.
- Cancellation requests with PayPal as a payment method will incur a 3.5% fee to cover the fees PayPal charges us.

Any shoes with creases in the leather or markings on the soles are not eligible for return and will be sent back to the buyer. Please walk gently when trying and keep on the carpet. See the video below for try-on instructions.

Defective Worn Footwear Policy (Alden Only)
If you believe your worn Alden shoes have manufacturing defects—such as loose stitching, leather flaws, or sole/heel issues—they must be returned to Alden for professional evaluation. Click the "Start a Return" button above and select "File a warranty claim".
Following inspection, shoes confirmed as defective will be repaired at no charge or replaced if necessary.
Important Requirements:
- Only shoes purchased from our store are eligible for defect inspection
- Footwear bought from other retailers cannot be processed for return or exchange
- Normal wear and tear is not covered under this policy
